Swimming Pool Algaecides & Clarifiers
Swimming Pool Algaecides & Clarifiers come in many concentrations designed to prevent or kill algae. Preventative algaecide pool chemicals are used weekly for people who have experienced algae blooms. More concentrated algaecides (30% or higher) are used along with pool shock to kill exhisting algae. Most of these are called quat or polyquats. Copper based algaecides are most effective against mustard and green algae. Although very effective, copper algaecide can cause staining of pool surfaces if not used properly, and cannot be used with soft swim or baquacil pools. Quat type algae preventers are inexpensive but will foam if not used correctly. Poly quats are a little more expensive, but will not foam or stain. If all chemical levels are balanced properly, cloudy water is caused by fine debris suspended in the water. Sometimes it is too fine and passes through the filter system, especially sand filters. Clairifiers will assist in grouping fine particles together where they can be more easily trapped by the filter. Most clairifiers are not recommended with diatomaceous earth (DE) filters.
