Swimming Pool Chlorine & Sanitizers
Swimming Pool Chlorine & Sanitizers is the most affordable pool chemical option for sanitizing a swimming pool. Chlorine sanitizes, oxidizes and kills algae on it's own when the water is properly balanced. With a mineral reservoir, the amount used can be greatly reduced. There are many types of chlorine. The most economical type is stabilized sodium tri-chlor. This is used in a float or in cartriges that fit inside an automatic feeder system. It's somewhat acitic, but also slow dissolving so it only needs to be added on an average of once a week to three weeks. Trichlor gives a pool 24 hour protection in an automatic feeder, and isn't affected much by the sun as easily as unstable chlorine (liquid). Granular chlorine (sodium dichlor) is used on a daily basis by some pool owners. It is dissolved in water, and poured directly into the pool. It's stable and can also be used to sanitize, oxidize and even kill algae on it's own. Liquid chlorine is a good shock, but it dissipates very quickly, has a high pH, and can be quite expensive on its own. Calcium based chlorines are also unstable with a high pH, and are not completely water soluble. The amount of chlorine used can vary depending upon water temperature, bather load rainfall, and pH balance of the water. Higher quantities of these will lead to more chlorine consumption.
