Water Balancers
Over time, pool water can drift out of chemical balance causing corrosion, scaling, stains, or bacterial growth to appear. These problems are prevented by paying attention to the basics of swimming pool water balance. We offer such water balancing products as Alkalinity Plus, Calcium Plus, pH Minus, and pH Plus to help you properly maintain your swimming pool. pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, and stabilizer, also called conditioner. pH measures acidity or alkalinity of pool water on a scale between 0 and 14. Proper range for vinyl pools is between 7.2 and 7.6. Above 7.8 leads to scaling, cloudy water, and bacterial growth. Above 8.0 sanitizers become ineffective and below 7.0 leads to corrosion of pool and filter equipment, bleaching, and skin irritation. TOTAL alkalinity is a simple measurement of carbonates in pool water which helps keep pH in line. Proper range is between 80 and 150ppm. High TA leads to scale formation and pH bounce, while a lower TA often causes etching and at times tends to drag pH down with it.(but not always) High alkalinity is often found in well water or simply certain locations or water treatment areas. Hardness is a measurement in ppm of minerals and metals in water. The proper range is 125 to 250 ppm with a little fluctuation depending on the type of metal or mineral present. Conditioner or "stabilizer" is recommended at the beginning of the year to keep the sun's UV-rays from breaking down chlorine prematurely, so that it can do its job for a longer period of time. Proper levels are between 30 and 100 ppm.
